Pillion rider dies as traffic inspector intercepts bike


more-inA 36-year-old woman, who was riding pillion with her husband, died on the spot after she lost balance and fell on the road following forcible interception by a traffic police inspector at Ganesha Point near Tiruverumbur along Thanjavur road, on Wednesday night. A massive protest at the scene of the accident brought traffic to a standstill on the busy road. The couple, Usha and Raja, 40, belonging to Soolamangalam near Papanasam in Thanjavur district, were proceeding to Tiruchi on a motorcycle when they were intercepted near Thuvakudi by a team led by traffic inspector Kamaraj. The protesting public became enraged after learning that the victim was pregnant and demanded departmental action against the police official. Tiruchi Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj said that a case was being registered against the inspector and he would be remanded in custody.
