Pierre Moscovici says risk of a no-deal Brexit on April 12th is increasing

The EU’s top economics and tax official, Pierre Moscovici, has said the risk of a no-deal Brexit on April 12th is increasing, as he explained the union’s contingency plans for customs. Mr Moscovici, the EU’s Economic Affairs and Tax Commissioner said the EU customs code would apply to all goods arriving from the UK. “If there is a no-deal scenario, new customs controls would have to be introduced...That does not mean we would systematically check every single...lorry...We would be controlling goods on the basis of risk analysis.”He began his press briefing in Brussels by saying: “We are now faced with an increasing risk of no-deal Brexit on April 12th”. He welcomed the latest development of talks between British prime minister Theresa May and Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn. More of those who voted Remain in the referendum than of those who voted Leave think Brexit will make a United Ireland more likely.
