Matt Ziegler (pictured), 43, has been named as one of the four skiers killed in an avalanche in the Italian AlpsA 'much-loved' British lawyer has been named as one of the four skiers killed in an avalanche in the Italian Alps. The four people were killed in the avalanche at 1pm on Sunday on a slope called Canale degli Spagnoli in Val Veny. They were equipped with avalanche gear, with at least two of the victims carrying avalanche air bags which they managed to trigger during the avalanche to try and float or surf on top. Specialist avalanche rescue dogs were taken to the scene, although rescuers located three of the skiers by signals from their avalanche transceivers. A further four people died in avalanches in Italy on the weekend, including a Belgian snowboarder and an Italian ski tourer.
