Physiotherapists highlight demands

Members of Coimbatore Physiotherapy Doctors Association and students of physiotherapy staging a hunger strike in the city on Sunday. V. Raja Selvakumar, president of Coimbatore chapter of the association, said the main demand of the association was the formation of State and Central level councils for physiotherapists. “Though physiotherapy as a field of medicine completed 64 years in India, physiotherapy councils at Central and State levels are yet to be formed. While New Delhi, Maharashtra, and Gujarat have State-level physiotherapy councils, TN is yet to have one,” Mr. Selvakumar said. Among other demands, the association wanted the Government to increase remuneration of physiotherapists working in Government-run hospitals and appointment of physiotherapists at State-level teams of each sport.
