For 15 minutes on Fridays on the shortwave, there was Canteen Girl. She was 100 and lived in an apartment on Fifth Avenue, where she kept scrapbooks filled with letters she had received as Canteen Girl. The death was confirmed by Jane Klain of the Paley Center for Media, which has Canteen Girl transmissions in its archives. In 1946, Ms. Creore married Ted Westermann, a film and corporate-presentations producer she had met while narrating one of his projects. She described Ms. Creore as gracious and happy, although she had felt “shut in” in her final years.
