(Photo: Achadthaya Chuenniran)Authorities in Phuket plan to adopt a wastewater and waste management model used by a local resort to address the island’s worsening environmental problems, including more than 1.2 million tonnes of accumulated waste. Provincial officials and business representatives recently went on a study visit to Katathani Phuket Beach Resort to observe its waste and water management systems. The resort is considered the local benchmark for systematic waste management, particularly in reducing waste at the source and promoting long-term sustainability. It operates a zero food waste system through on-site waste separation and treatment, which reduces the amount of waste sent for external disposal.
