It is almost 70 years since English National Ballet first performed the story of The Nutcracker, a festive tale of a young girl and her enchanted doll set to Tchaikovsky’s unmistakable score. This latest incarnation of the production, simply titled Nutcracker, made its debut in 2010 and whisks audiences to a sparkling, frost-dusted Edwardian London on Christmas Eve, in a twirl of silk, tulle and Swarovski crystals. Now it’s back for another Christmas season at the London Coliseum. Before the curtain rises, we take a behind-the-scenes look at the intricate artistry and intense rehearsals that go into creating the world’s favourite festive ballet. English National Ballet’s Nutcracker is performed at the London Coliseum from Thursday until December 30.
