A photograph of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton looking at a newspaper headline about vice-president Mike Pence using private email has gone viral on social media, with thousands of people commenting on it. Despite reports that other government figures – including Obama administration defense secretary Ash Carter and Bush secretary of state Colin Powell – had used private email while in office, the state department’s internal watchdog said Clinton had broken department rules. It said Pence used the account, which was hacked last summer, to discuss sensitive matters and homeland security issues while he was governor of Indiana. Pence said on Friday he had complied with state laws in his use of the email account, and had an outside attorney review his private email records and archive those related to state business. Pence used a consumer email provider, Lotter said, while Clinton had a private server in her home.
