An erupting volcano 65 kilometers south of the capital Manlla spewed lava into the air and spread ash across the Philippines on Monday, prompting the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Taal is among more than 20 active volcanoes in the Philippines, which sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Aircraft are still advised to avoid the airspace around the volcano as ash and ballistic fragments pose risks.
