From July 1, the rate of petrol excise duty will increase about 3.5 cents to equal about 70c per litre. That will increase to around about 70c per litre on Wednesday, and road user charges will increase by an equivalent amount (around 5 per cent). In June 2018, the Government announced increases to petrol excise duty and road user charges in 2018, 2019 and 2020. It's the 1st of July - so the government's excise taxes are rising - including for fuel, road user charges and alcohol.
