A litre of petrol and diesel might reach the €2 mark in levels not seen for more than a year. A combination of a surge in crude prices and a weak euro relative to the dollar is driving up the price of motor fuels and the cost of home-heating oil. The Government added 7c to a litre of petrol and 5c to a litre of diesel. Experts pointed out that adding duty to fuel prices means transport costs go up, which in turn puts pressure on prices across the economy. The cost of home-heating oil has shot up in recent weeks.
