A petitioner is demanding the removal of IEBC staff for incompetence in the 2013 general elections. Barasa appeared before a joint Parliamentary committee that constitutes the Justice and Legal Affairs committee chaired by Samuel Chepkonga, and the Constitution Implementation and Oversight committee chaired by Njoroge Baiya. The 2013 general election, in which President Uhuru emerged winner, was marred by technical issues that delayed results. IEBC staff have defended as above board the kits given to Burundi during elections. Early on election day, the electronic vote transmission system set up and managed by IEBC crashed, with claims of sabotage as a way of rigging the election.
