Steve Evans has been appointed as manager of Peterborough United after holding talks with the League One club. Evans and his assistant Paul Raynor left Mansfield Town on Tuesday after the club "reluctantly accepted" their resignations and Evans was in the stands for Peterborough's 2-1 win over Walsall later that evening. Peterborough will hope Evans will be the man to revive their promotion ambitions after overseeing an impressive season with Mansfield, who currently sit fifth in League Two. "As soon as somebody of the calibre of Steve Evans called to register their interest in the vacant position, there was no time to waste and I made the phone call, potential terms were discussed and we are now in a position to announce Steve as our manager. The Scot spent two years at Mansfield, after previous spells with Leeds United, Rotherham United and Crawley Town.
