This week’s Travis Vader murder verdict offered a vivid illustration of some of the best and worst features of Canadian criminal justice. But it also has its flaws, and the state of the Criminal Code is at the top of the list. Every federal government of the past quarter-century has come into power promising reforms to make our criminal justice system better. The Vader verdict reveals the perils of failing to give our criminal justice framework the care and attention it needs.
