A pest control company has been charged after a worker was poisoned at a Christchurch factory housing chemicals that can be used to make 1080. In May 2019, a Pest Control Research worker was processing chemicals when he came into contact with a poisonous substance. 1080 pest control bait was not manufactured at the Bromley factory but chemicals that could be used to make it were stored there. Court documents show that Pest Control Research Ltd Partnership faces six charges, including exposing an individual to risk of harm or illness, and failing to have an emergency response plan. O'Brien said PCR had been operating for many years in Christchurch, manufacturing pest control devices and poisons without incident.
