Even Peru’s left wing, which had been in the political wilderness for decades, has a larger bloc in Congress now. At 77, Kuczynski is Peru’s oldest president. “I can’t remember in the country’s history such a pro-business Cabinet,” said Francisco Durand, who teaches political science at Lima’s Catholic University. He was elected in a June runoff by the thinnest of margins, just 41,000 votes over Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of jailed former President Alberto Fujimori.
