Perth energy firm SSE rolls out north of Scotland investment

SSE's investment plan includes expenditure of around £22bn to “rewire” the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland to transport energy generated by windfarms located in areas such as off the north and east coasts of the country to centres of demand. The majority of this investment will support 11 well-established projects, part of the Pathway to 2030 programme, that will expand and strengthen existing infrastructure. Around £5bn will also be invested in the company’s distribution networks in the north of Scotland and central southern England. SSE said yesterday: “The regulated Networks businesses are expected to deliver an around 60% year-on-year increase in capital investment, as momentum continues in the delivery of their long-term business plans. This comes after SSE reported in February that generation output from SSE Renewables was 7% higher in the first nine months of the company’s financial year compared with the same period in year before.
