Waikato police were at the scene of a car crash near Morrinsville on Saturday morning. A person was trapped in a car for almost an hour after it crashed into a power pole in rural Waikato, bringing down live electricity lines on top of it on Saturday morning. PowerCo, the company responsible for the electricity lines in the Matamata-Piako district, reported it switched the power off at 7.47am. Waikato Police Senior Sergeant Pete Simpson earlier said there were two people in the car when it crashed into the power pole. Simpson said it appeared the car lost control before it went into the power pole but police are investigating the circumstances which led to the crash.
