Perinatal medicine congress opens in Taipei

Perinatal medicine congress opens in TaipeiTAIPEI, Taiwan -- The 19th Congress of the Federation of Asia and Oceania Perinatal Societies kicked off recently at the Taipei International Convention Center this year. Due to the increasing numbers of older pregnant women, global attention has recently shifted to the prevention and management of perinatal complications. This year's program focus on four major topics: high-risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis with ultrasonography, advanced prenatal genetic testing and fetal therapy. In high-risk pregnancy, the mother, the fetus or neonate are at an increased risk of morbidity or mortality before or after delivery, according to the federation. It was estimated that five to six out of 100,000 pregnant women die from pregnancy-related complications in Taiwan.
