And all of this increased performance is being introduced at the same time PC OEMs are driving for thinner, lighter, and sleeker device designs. As a result, what we’re seeing today is a larger disparity in performance between various laptop designs in the market, though comparatively, various models from different manufacturers may be configured with similar components and thus expected performance levels. In reality, as laptops and 2-in-1 hybrid machines are continually stressed in traditional end user workloads, they bleed off some of their expected performance over extended use. Our research firm, HotTech Vision And Analysis, recently published a report that looks specifically at five top 15-inch Windows laptop and hybrid 2-in-1 machines from Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, ASUS and Dell. So again, not all laptop designs are created equal and virtually all OEMs have to make trade-offs between performance, fan noise, ergonomics and industrial design aesthetics.
