People who are most active in the afternoon could be at increased risk of dementia, study finds

Being a morning person means you might be at lower risk of developing dementia, new research suggests. The study is the latest in a growing body of research linking interruptions to circadian rhythm - the body's natural 24-hour internal clock - with a higher risk of the disease. Those with a weaker circadian rhythm were also more 2.5 times more likely to develop the disease than participants with a strong rhythm. Previous research has linked weaker and fragmented circadian rhythms to higher dementia risk. Separate analysis by Alzheimer's Research UK found 74,261 people died from dementia in 2022, up from 69,178 the previous year – making it the country's single biggest killer.
