People on temporary work visas are eligible for the Government's Covid-19 wage subsidies and leave payment, it has been confirmed. The Ministry of Social Development today told the Otago Daily Times today the payment would apply to these workers. The response comes after Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim Boult sent a letter to the Government asking for support for those on essential skills visas. Queenstown is heavily reliant on overseas workers and many visas stipulated a minimum of 30 hours' paid work. But this was under threat as tourism slowed in the resort and trade had been affected.
