Economic growth under a People’s Party government focused on integrating Thailand into high-tech East Asian supply chains. However, I view Mr Pisan’s speech as merely the tip of the iceberg of a deep-seated identity crisis within the People’s Party. In the context of Thai diplomacy, “elegance” is often used to mask a failure to stand by universal principles.
