Pentagon looks to exoskeletons to build 'super-soldiers'

The U.S. Army has awarded a $6.9m contract to develop an 'Iron Man' exoskeleton to give soldiers superhuman strength and endurance. Called Onyx, the battery-operated exoskeleton uses a suite of sensors, artificial intelligence and other technology to aid natural movements. Keith Maxwell, the exoskeleton technologies manager at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said people in his company's trials who wore the exoskeletons showed far more endurance. The United States is not the only country looking at exoskeleton technology. Russia, in particular, was working on several versions of exoskeletons, including one that it tested recently in Syria, Bendett said.
