Richard Osborn-Brooks, 78, is thought to have been forced into his kitchen by the intruder before a struggle took place. The Metropolitan Police said that the 38-year-old suspect, one of two alleged burglars at the property in Hither Green, southeast London, was stabbed in his upper body and died of his wounds in hospital. Mr Osborn-Brooks, a keen puzzle player who helped to organise the local street party, was supported by his neighbours, who said that homeowners should be able to defend themselves.
