GEORGE TOWN: Barber shops and hair salons in Penang will remain closed during the movement control order (MCO) period even though the Federal Government has given the nod for them to operate. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government decided against the move as it viewed seriously the public feedback on the matter. "More than 95% of the people expressed their concern over the move, and the Penang Special Security Committee (JKKN) meeting which I chaired today (Saturday) decided that the shops should remain closed," said Chow in his Covid-19 online Facebook message on Saturday (April 11). "This is because the JKKN meeting raised the possibility of a new (Covid-19) cluster if the shops are reopened. "The state government reserves the right to not follow the decision of the Federal Government and hope they will review the matter for the safety of all parties.
