GEORGE TOWN: A 33-year-old labourer was sentenced to six months’ jail by the magistrate’s court here today for escaping police custody earlier this month. Muhamad Khairul Nizam Abdullah Sani was accused of deliberately fleeing from police custody at 5.30pm on Sept 6 while he was held at the George Town Court complex lock up. Khairul was charged under Section 224 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail sentence of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Catherine sentenced Khairul to six months in jail starting from the day of his arrest on Sept 23. Khairul managed to flee the court complex while the other suspect was caught immediately.
