Penang PAS wants state govt to stop meddling in Islamic affairs - Nation

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Penang PAS has demanded that the state government apologise to Muslims for meddling in Islamic affairs. The party's state commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusof also urged the DAP-led state government to retract the issuance of fatwa in the state, saying it is a matter only for Muslims. "The state exco committee has 12 members, including the Chief Minister who is a non-Muslim. “We want them to stop meddling in Islamic affairs and drop the state ruling that fatwa have to go through them first," he said at the Penang PAS convention at Yayasan An-Nahdhoh in Kubang Semang on Sunday. Muhammad Fauzi also said that three fatwa issued in other states have yet to be passed in Penang and the matter is being delayed because it is deemed "unsuitable".
