A day after a joint investigation by Amnesty International and Washington Post suggested that two Indian journalists had been targeted with Pegasus spyware, few prominent dailies carried a report from an Indian source. The investigation came two months after several politicians and journalists claimed they had received alerts from Apple about “state-sponsored attackers”. Meanwhile, a Washington Post report claimed that after the Apple alerts, central government officials had called Apple’s India representatives “to demand that the company help soften the political impact of the warnings”. Among the dailies that covered it prominently were The Hindu, Telegraph, and the Indian Express, with reports on the front page. The Hindu mentioned both the joint investigation as well as the Washington Post report which claimed government pressure on Apple.
