What was actually happening on the field was 35-year-old Dustin Pedroia was making his spring training debut, and he was only scheduled to play two innings. Last season, Pedroia played just three games in his return from cartilage restoration surgery in October 2017. So back on the shelf went Pedroia, until today. Pedroia is not expected to play more than 125 out of 162 games this season - 100 games may be more realistic.
