Pawar to meet Sonia as Sena-Cong-NCP alliance takes shape in Maharashtra

NEW DELHI : A major political realignment is taking shape in Maharashtra with Congress party and its alliance partner, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), taking steps to form a government with arch rival Shiv Sena. According to the plan of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, the post of chief minister will go to Shiv Sena and NCP is likely to get the post of deputy chief minister. On Sunday, caretaker chief minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tributes to Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on his death anniversary. Uncertainty over government formation in Maharashtra has continued for 23 days as alliance partners BJP and Shiv Sena could not reach an agreement on a power-sharing formula. The relationship between BJP and Shiv Sena deteriorated further after Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant resigned as Union minister, signalling the exit of the regional party from the BJP-led NDA.
