In the accompanying sweet picture, Paul could be seen cuddling his fluffy little Shih Tzu on the bed. The television presenter, 64, could be seen looking at his dog with the absolute adoration in the snap. He said on Radio 2: "I can't handle it, it's what I always say - invite an animal into your life, inevitably you invite heartache." Aside from his high-flying television career, Paul has always had a soft spot for animals and in particular dogs.
