Patient died of complications after wound care failingsSUPPLIED Whanganui District Health Board let down an elderly woman who later died of complications after surgery for a foot wound that was not properly managed. A Whanganui woman died of complications after several chances to get her urgent medical attention for a deteriorating foot wound were missed in 2015. Health and Disability commissioner Andrew Hill has criticised the Whanganui District Health Board and two district nurses for failures in her care. Hill said the district health board should have had systems in place to ensure staff assessing referrals were aware of the case history. The Whanganui District Health Board has been invited to respond to the commissioner's findings.
