In 1950, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had a famous exchange of letters with Jawaharlal Nehru about the latter’s China policy. In recent years, there has been an effort to be more inclusive about the North-East. In some sense the North-East is our Africa. Just as many forget that Africa is a continent not a country, many of us think of the entire North-East as one state. There’s a joke that one acacia tree against an orange sunset is the default cover of any Africa book whether set in Nigeria, South Africa or Mozambique, written by Doris Lessing or Wilbur Smith.
