Patchy summer fails to rain on Briscoes' paradeMARION VAN DIJK/FAIRFAX NZ Briscoe has resisted the temptation to hold big sales after a disappointing summer so far. A patchy summer and sluggish start to Christmas trading has failed to put the dampener on Briscoe Group's expected bumper profit this year. Homeware sales rose by 4 per cent to $372.5m while sporting goods sales increased sales by 7.8 per cent to $210.3m. Briscoe boss Rod Duke is counting on a long, warm summer. Inconsistent summer weather had also had an impact, affecting the sale of everything from barbecues and outdoor furniture to sports apparel.
