Pastoralist communities living in Wajir south have turned away an oil exploration company over concerns of environmental degradation. Officials of Simba Energy met the committee representing the community living at Leheley on Wednesday to solve the matter. The elders asked Simba Energy, the company doing the exploration works in six locations in Wajir south, to halt their activities until a way forward from the government is obtained. Information of the company's website says the targeted Block 2A has excellent potential for significant oil and gas discoveries. Efforts to contact the representatives of the company in Wajir were fruitless.
