Party leaders urge PM to fully compensate victims of the NHS blood scandal NOW

Theresa May faced an impassioned cross-party appeal last night to pay ‘full compensation’ to infected blood victims before more die. Jeremy Corbyn joined six other political party leaders at Westminster to urge the Prime Minister to act now. A public inquiry into how thousands were given infected blood in the 1970s and 1980s – dubbed ‘the worst treatment scandal in NHS history’ – began three weeks ago. Thousands more may have been exposed through blood transfusions after an operation or childbirth. The Department of Health last night said it was committed to a ‘fair and transparent support scheme’ for victims.
