Photo: MetService webcamSome parts of the South have woken to snow this morning as an active front passes over the South Island. Snow was falling in the Naseby, Oturehua and St Bathans areas around 7.30am, and the Crown Range Road between Queenstown and Wanaka got a fair dusting. Additionally, snow was forecast down to 300m across the lower South Island in a cold southwest change behind the front early this morning. ‘‘Snow accumulations may approach warning criteria above 500m in parts of inland Southland and Clutha during this time, and a heavy snow watch is now in force for this area. ‘‘People are advised to stay up-to-date with the latest forecasts in case any updates are made.’’On Monday, another front should approach the lower South Island, bringing strong northwesterlies to eastern parts of the South Island, and rain would gradually set in over western areas.
