A moment of silence was held at 10:15 am (1515 GMT) by the few students who turned up at the school in Parkland, Florida. Thousands of people later gathered in the Pine Trails Park for a brief interfaith service at which the names of the victims were read. Many people wore red Marjory Stoneman Douglas shirts, while others wore shirts bearing the names of those killed in the shooting. Much of the momentum for tighter gun laws has come from the grassroots lobbying efforts of the Stoneman Douglas students. Former President Barack Obama praised the Parkland students.
