PETALING JAYA: As a player, Poul-Erik Hoyer (pic) of Denmark fought against all odds to win the singles gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. The Dane, who is the Badminton World Federation (BWF) president, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. “I feel now is an appropriate time to make this news public,” said Hoyer, in statement on the world badminton body’s website. “Medical science has come a long way in dealing with Parkinson’s disease and I feel very little impact of the disease in all areas of my day to day life. “My full efforts are totally focused on leading the BWF and fulfilling my role as an International Olympic Committee member.
