A 5-year-old child was almost hit by a vehicle as she crossed State Highway 6 through Wakefield, sparking calls from parents for a new safe crossing point at the northern end of the growing village. Caitlin Armstrong said she too took her children Elsie, 8, and Joe, 5, each day to and from Wakefield School because of the highway.
