ALDEN WILLIAMS/FAIRFAX NZ Sport Tasman CEO Nigel Muir said the organisation was committed to boosting girls participation in sport. This was to give the boys teams sufficient court time in order to finish all the boys playoffs and finals. "It summarises in nutshell how hard it is for organisations to let go of stereotypical assumptions about womens sport and how womens sport is viewed as less important than mens sport. Muir said this year's futsal tournament was the biggest that Sport Tasman had hosted at the secondary school level. Muir said Sport Tasman was committed to helping young girls get active going forward and hoped to double the number of girls teams at next year's tournament.
