Parched reservoirs crimp harvests

The water level in a reservoir in Phi Mai district of Nakhon Ratchasima has dropped due to the drought that has hit the province. (Photo by Prasit Tangprasert)Lower water in reservoirs might prevent off-season rice harvesting, according to Thaweesak Thanadachopol, deputy director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department (RID). The overall water storage level in reservoirs across the country remains low which means the RID will not have enough water to feed the farm sector during the dry season. Off-season rice harvesting usually starts in January. The reservoir usually supplies water to the three districts, both for agriculture and tap water production.
