St John Ambulance worker Lori Gommans says she is paid $22 an hour less than her peers in Australia and the United Kingdom. Intensive care paramedic, and First Union representative, Anthony Ivan, who works for St John, said internationally the starting wage for an EMT with a degree was around $80,000. Paramedics in New Zealand are locked in stalled negotiations with St John. Ivan said the message of deep discontent among ambulance workers had not got through to the Government, partly because ambulance workers were reticent to strike. JOSEPH JOHNSON/STUFF St John ambulance staff who responded to the Christchurch mosque shootings share their stories.
