Photo: AFPNew Delhi: Four months after the 29 September surgical strike conducted by the Indian Army, following the terrorist attack in Uri, the government has honoured the soldiers with gallantry awards, to be presented during the Republic Day celebrations, on Thursday. The Yudh Seva Medal (YSM) was awarded to commanding officers of 4 Para and 9 Para (special forces), while the Kriti Chakra was awarded to Major Mohit Suri of 4 Para, who also participated in the surgical strike. The Shaurya Chakra was awarded to five army commandos of the Para forces, who were also part of the operation. The 29 September surgical strike took place just 10 days after the attack at an army camp in Uri, which killed 17 Indian Army soldiers and wounded 19 others.
