Other shoppers reported queues forming before 7am and still being in place outside stores at 10.45pm yesterday. This week Asda announced it was beefing up its security across all 421 of its larger UK stores to cope with Christmas panic-buying. And ministers were warned that food supplies would be disrupted if the border is not reopened by Wednesday.
