Pandemic 'poses particular challenges' for food processing plants: Freeland

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland says the government is working on ways to support Canada's food processing plants during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to concerns about labour shortages. "Food processors are an essential part of our food supply chain and food security is clearly really important in a crisis like this," said Freeland. She called the people working in meat processing plants "absolutely essential for us to maintain a stable food supply as we tackle this pandemic." Disruptions at food processing plants also could cause problems for farmers with limited barn capacity.
