Pan-dems propose cutting officials' pay, police funding

Pro-democracy lawmakers have proposed 52 amendments to the Appropriation Bill 2020 at the Legislative Council today, including cutting officials' salaries and police force expenditure. People Power lawmaker Raymond Chan Chi-chuen criticized the police force for abusing power, targeting journalists and losing professional attitudes. He said instead of reflecting, they have been demanding to increase manpower and replace armored vehicles. Chan questioned the police for using social incidents to earn political dividends, obtain overtime pay and increase budget, and believes that they should not be condoned. Democratic Party chairman Wu Chi-wai criticized Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor's handing of the anti-extradition law amendment protests since June last year and the coronavirus epidemic this year.
