Imports to the UK from both in and outside the EU rose in April as palladium imports soared to meet demand from a recovering car industry. Total imports rose by £1.4 billion, or 3.9%, during the month, according to new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). It helped push imports of goods from non-EU countries to their highest point since records began in 1997. However, while imports rose from both the EU and outside, exports registered a small decline. Good exports fell by £0.1 billion, or 0.6%, over the month following two consecutive months of growth.
