Palace commits to end media killings

Ranking 6th among countries with the highest number of media members killed worldwide, the Duterte administration is committed to end media violence in the country through the special task force on violence against media workers also known as Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS). The seminar aims to inform the people in the regions about the Duterte administration’s campaign against media killings and harassment. Egco said dirty politics, corruption and the vulnerability of the media profession were among the major contributors to media killings in the country. He said out of the nine media killings the PTFoMS has resolved so far, only two of them – Larry Que, (Catanduanes) and Jun Briones – were verified as work-related. In 2015, the Philippines ranked 3rd; fourth in 2016; fifth in 2017 and dropped to sixth in 2018 with the most number of slain media workers.
